The Need for Action
Home | The Need for Action
For too long a time, Nigerians have been enslaved in extreme poverty, socio-economic and political oppression by the ruling elites, who in the past decades, up until the present time, have hijacked INEC and the judiciary as their vote-rigging tools for capturing and retaining political power, thereby undermining the electorates and their democratic rights to choose, elect or remove their political leaders through credible elections.
Today, elections in Nigeria have become a “cash-and-carry” transaction, where victories are bargained and pre-determined by INEC and the ruling elites, and are also being post-determined in many cases by the judiciary. This is the core reason our elected politicians do not feel obligated to provide good governance because they know INEC will always assist them to compromise elections, as a sustainable unscrupulous means of retaining their political seats without relying on the electorates and their votes.
Until INEC, the ruling elites and the judiciary are not anymore allowed by Nigerians to elect politicians by vote-rigging, the much-desired good political leadership will forever remain a mere wish. Today’s political realities have shown that Nigeria is still not a democracy but a pseudo-democracy or fake democracy, where politicians are not elected into political seats by electorates through credible elections but by INEC, the ruling elites and the judiciary through compromised elections and fraudulent court judgements. The need to reverse this unfortunate political trend and make Nigeria a truly functional democracy, is the reason for the creation of NYWOPEM.
