The existing critical need to reverse Nigeria’s recurring unfortunate trend of the political alienation and exclusion of youths and women, by the ruling elites or political cabals, is the basic reason for the creation of the Nigerian Youths and Women Political Emancipation Movement (NYWOPEM). It provides a national grassroots electoral engagement platform for youths and women to come together and unite their efforts or join forces towards actualizing their own political self-rescue or self-emancipation, by way of enforcing active and adequate participation, involvement and inclusion of youths and women in elections and governance.
NYWOPEM’s core objective is to serve as a national grassroots peer-to-peer electoral engagement and networking platform for the political sensitization, re-awakening and mass mobilization of youths and women towards active participation and involvement in elections and governance, specifically as voters, ballot security volunteers, electoral candidates and political officeholders.
NYWOPEM was unveiled on Monday 16th February, 2026 in Lagos by a renowned political economist, Professor Pat Utomi, alongside two prominent Nigerian activists, Femi Falana SAN, who is a human rights activist, and Comrade Kennedy Iyere, a humanitarian activist. They also on the same day launched the #FixNASS2027 Movement, which is a widespread national grassroots political re-awakening campaign and mass voters mobilization movement for a revolutionary democratic regime change in the Nigerian federal and state legislatures in the forthcoming 2027 general elections aimed towards entrenching a functional and pro-people independent legislative arm of government in replacement for the dysfunctional and weak one currently in place at the federal and state levels.
#FixNASS2027 is a political action movement anchored and driven by concerned citizens, including both ordinary Nigerians and the elites but coordinated by a coalition of NGOs, CSOs, FBOs and cooperative groups through the Youths Off The Street Initiative (YOTSI), 40Million Ballots Movement, and the Nigerian Youths and Women Political Emancipation Movement (NYWOPEM).
Our Goal
“To provide a multi-level electoral engagement and networking platform where youths and women will be able to work together and unite themselves into a huge, formidable and dominant political force designed to reverse elite political dominance towards entrenching a new political order which enforces active and adequate participation, involvement and inclusion of youths and women in politics and governance”
